Movie Night!

What to do with no papers, readings or other school assignments - and no meetings or camps with the church? We had a long overdue Movie Night with some of Maggie's friends who are visiting from BC. It was fun to doodle while watching Despicable Me.  Juli thinks that Gru dances like me... she may be right! The paper I drew on has a nice tooth for using a fountain pen, but it is bluish and throws off the scanning. I am sure there is a way to compensate for this in PhotoShop, but I guess that sounds too much like work.

I proudly murse in public.

I came back from Russia this summer with two fashionable items: (1) a sweet little satchel/man purse/murse and (2) the crude beginnings of a beard.  With a quick survey of the hipster fashionistas I should be back on the 'cool' side of the ledger (assuming I ever was).  Unfortunately a quick google search of "man purse celebrity" yielded these two images.  Sadly I am quite aware of where I sit on the Ryan Reynolds/Zach Galifinakis scale.  Why is it every time I try to go hip I wind up looking like Jack Black and not Johnny Depp.  Oh well, I guess I am destined to always remain Geek Chic hold the Chic.

History of HR

I was reviewing some literature (and reflecting on past experiences) on what a HR Department should.  When I first started doing training for various orgs the HR people were the fun loving people that made life in an org bearable (they displayed high levels of Org Citizenship Behaviours) but somebody told them they would never be taken seriously if all they did was encourage people and hand out T-Shirts/coffee cups/ etc and so they became 'more professional.'

Obviously there are still fun loving good hearted HR people, but more and more it seems to be a collection of Catberts (gotta love Scottt Adams). Enjoy!

Confessions of an Occasional Streetwalker

I love traveling - I love to be in new places. More than anything I like to just wander around and see different sights and especially people (I trained as an anthropologist after all). I wore out my shoes last week exploring center city in Philadelphia. This picture is from last summer's wandering around Seattle with the family - eventually I will get some Philly doodles up.
